How IX Ring Seal Works ?

  • The functioning of the IX Seal Ring involves the conversion of axial forces into radial sealing force through the taper of the metal seal ring.
  • As the pre-load increases, the bevel closes and establishes face-to-face contact on the outer wedge. This facilitates the transfer of compressive forces between the flange faces at the heel, utilizing a significant portion of the bolt pre-load.
  • The IX Ring Seal comprises two distinct seals. The first seal is formed by applying seal seating stress at the flange heel. Alongside, the flange remains in contact around its outer circumference with the flange faces, ensuring continuous contact across various load levels. The primary seal is provided by the IX Seal Ring itself. The seal ring force is generated by the elastic energy stored in the stressed seal ring. In the event of any potential leakage at the heel, internal pressure acts on the seal ring, intensifying its sealing action.
  • The design of the IX Ring Seal is specifically engineered to protect against oxygen exposure and other corrosive agents. This proactive measure effectively prevents corrosion of the flange faces, the stressed length of the bolts, as well as the seal ring.

  • IX seal comes with a PTFE/XYLON coating, the color of the coating identifies the material used to make the IX seal
  • IX seal numbers are from IX 15 to IX 1200
  • Other machined components are as seen in the picture, which is machined as per the customer provided drawings, this normally comes with a Silver Coating which is done in-house
